Beautiful Sounds and Odour
What is it about beautiful sounds that can touch you so deep? Is it the melodius nature of the sound, how it was read or sung? I have been listening to Japanese lyric songs these days, of which meaning I have no idea often times. Nevertheless, the melodies could carry me into a mind journey sometimes.I will give you an example. There is a song called Namida Sou Sou, sung by Rimi Natsukawa. It has a strong Okinawa origin and the singer herself is from that area if I am not mistaken. Everytime I listen to is, it is as if I were brought to my childhood again. Playing with my brothers, friends, catching frogs, flying kites.....I hope no one think of me as wimp here, but it literally brought tears to my eyes to reminisce like that. Hmm..how do the two correlates so strongly like that, I wonder.....
Praying while really trying to understand verses of Qur'an also brings something akin to trance sometimes. However, for me, it is more of associating the verses with the overwhelming feeling of sadness. This does not come too often though, maybe I should concentrate better :)The same kind of effect is experienced as well for my olfactory sense. Jasmine, for me, conjures up the images of marriage ceremony atmopshere. The smell of wet cut grass reminds me of my parents' house when I was in Sumatra.Well, I am not going to theorize into the realm of the science to find the above, as one wise guy said to me,"Just enjoy the beauty that surrounds us and rejoice in it". I shut up when I heard those words....wait a minute, even words can carry powerful images too!
