Lose the Addiction
You are probably familiar with this story of Abunawas;
One day, Abunawas lost his key and he decided to look around outside of the home. He was going around outside of his home several times that his neighbor started to come and asked him;
Neighbor: Ya Abu Nawas, you seem to be in such confusion, what is the matter?
Abunawas stopped and looked to him, and said: I lost my key my friend, maybe you can help me?
Neighbor: Fine with me. Do you remember where you lost it?
Abunawas, calmly said: Yes, I think I lost it in the house actually
Confused neighbor: Hmmm??So why do you bother looking for it here?
Abunawas, with a innocent smile: Of course, because it is bright out here, my house is too dark to look for the key!
I will not try to provide an explanation of what the story above means, as I have recently been given a revelation from the above story by someone. Up until now, I believe, almost to the point of obsession, that the purpose of life is measured by achieving an understanding of who I am in relation to my Creator. This quest of knowledge intensified and this thirst of “searching the Truth” becomes an addiction in itself.
I think I need to take a breather and a step back, while at the same time evaluate again what it is that I am trying to achieve with this "search of the Truth" thing. Everyone has an addiction in life, be it a simple thing such as tobacco. It would be wise perhaps for each of us to recognize what it is we are addicted to, so we can change our perspective in life and look at things from a new angle.
